photoshoot

Below are some photo's I took in Avon, Northampton. Featured in some of these photos is Jorden Heffernan who is also a film maker and photographer. Here's a link to his facebook page: www.facebook.com/pages/Jorden-Heffernan-Films-and-Photography

The photos I have taken were edited in photoshop. The editing, includes desaturation and the addition of a vignette on some of the photo's.
I edited the photos like this because I wanted a dark urban feel to the photos.

This photo is desaturated all apart from the danger signs!
This photo has a blur vignette which was added in photo shop and also has been desaturated.

Credit to Jorden Heffernan who took this.

My Design work

These are some of my designs I made for either commissioned work, assignments or even just for fun. For these designs I used adobe photoshop, illustrator or Indesign to create them.

An apple with a lions mouth. This was a Photoshop experiment just for fun

This surreal landscape was made for college. I made it for the design of a magazine.

My first css website I designed two years back for college. The site is a working portfolio but not online as it was just made for an assignment.

This is an Illustration of a frog close up. It was made for university to explore Adobe Illustrator
An Illustration I drew up scanned in and Coloured in Illustrator

A combination of Photoshop and Illustrator in this one

This was a hair model I traced over in Illustrator then added a bandanna to create this character

A photoshopped picture of me holding a camera with a space background
Here's a Magazine cover I made up for a college project useing the image above. I used indesign for this one

BBC introducing in Northampton!

On the on the 12th of June I was taking photos for BBC introducing In Northampton club Roadmender. The BBC found some of Northampton's best musical talent and they were all playing under one roof.
Bands and Mc's performed and collaborated together coming up with new tunes exclusively for the event and they all played the roof off!

The line up for the gig was:

Billy Locket - Billy sings with a band and also plays the guitar and piano. He collaborated with MC static who performed after. The collaboration song was amazing along with the rest of his performance

Northampton abandoned building: YMCA aka: "Yam House"

The Ymca located 4-5 Cheyne walk (nicknamed yam house) was sold in 2004 due to not being able to afford £400,000 in repairs. Now it has been abandoned and left to rot away. The building is covered inside and out in Graffiti, parts have been knocked down or falling down and is becoming overgrown with plants and weeds.
In July 2009  a bully (Aaron Adams, 23) used the abandoned building to record the torturer and assault of a 16 year old teenager. Aaron Adams strapped a teen to a chair and put a pillow over his head; Aerosol and a lighter was used to burn his face, beer and water was poured all over the victim.
The court was told that a female witness said to stop and a knife was put against her throat and was given death threats.
Aaron Adams was send to prison with a 15 months sentence for false imprisonment.
As for the building itself steps to Rooms have been either knocked down or have fell down, so climbing is needed to get into some of the rooms as Kieran is doing here.
The basement is dark and bedding can sometimes be found, suggesting the homeless have slept down there. It gets pretty spooky, which is why when we went down to take some photo's with our garden lights, we only took these two in the doorway and left in a hurry.

Photo from a hole in the wall I took of Kieran in one of the many rooms upstairs. The building has got very unstable.

Playing with lights

The other day me and fellow photographer Kieran Jones (http://www.facebook.com/#!/ATCNORTHAMPTON) were pretty bored. we out and bought some flaming garden lights and started experimenting with long exposure shots in his garden! We started off by making a man appear to be sitting on a bench as you can see above. Below are some of our other results.
Here is a shot of a man on a swing. To make these long exposure shots if you don't know already, you turn down your shutter speed so the shutter stays open over a period of time. I turned made the shutter open for 20 seconds on these examples. You then move light to wear the camera is pointing you can draw shapes such as this man.  The reason this happens is because all the time the shutter is open it is letting light in.
To take long exposure shots you need to make shore there is very little light otherwise you'll just end up with just a very over exposed shot.
This is one of my favorite shots I took in the shoot. With the subtle use of light circling around the stump and rose i find this makes the picture elegant.
Here I've used a more bolder light effect. Although this is the same shot the bold light changes the feel to the photo making it look more of a powerful shot than the other one.
